Printmaker, Painter, Illustrator
‘All things in nature and life inspire me but much of my imagery comes from my imagination, I enjoy creating whimsical stories without words.’
Born in The Netherlands with a Dutch-Indonesian culture, my family and I migrated to Australia in the early 1970’s. Embracing the warmer climate and the vast, rugged landscape my childhood was social and happy; filled with road trips, camping, fishing and family celebrations. It is through these experiences where I believe my art originates.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Design majoring in illustration; I began freelancing for publishers and design studios around Australia from the late 1980’s. As the world of illustration digitalised I sought to expand my artistic skills through further education in the fine arts. My work took a new direction after graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in printmaking and painting. While my printmaking works start with a planned design I enjoy not knowing completely how each piece will turn out once pressed to paper. The process of printmaking allows unpredictable results with each impression being unique. Without the limitations of a design brief, I found a love for painting and the spontaneity that it allows. I often work on multiple paintings at a time, creating and re-creating each one until I am happy with the final piece.
Moving to the Adelaide Hills in 2007 I was inspired by the landscape and wildlife that have since become strong themes in my abstract and mixed media works. Regardless of which style of work I am creating; bold design, bright colours and quirky images are consistent throughout. Since 2015 I have been running art classes in Aldgate and occasional printmaking workshops from my home studio in Mount Barker. I am happy to discuss workshops and commissions.
